Jasper de Beijer (1973 Amsterdam) presents his photo series: Le Sacre du Printemps. For this photo series the artist has used photographs from the First World War as a starting point to investigate the esthetics of these images. Because of the particular nature of this imagery and the emotional distance that has existed through the course of time the artist saw an opportunity to look at the abstract quality of his sources; the rearrangement of iron, mud, stone and flesh by means of destruction. As in Strawinsky's famous ballet performance, the new order can only emerge if the old one has been burned down. The past years de Beijer has been reconstructing imagery that has become autonomous in the course of history, using existing sources to create a new reality.
