Ruri Matsumoto - Broken Line Collape Landscape

The title of the exhibition 'Ruri Matsumoto, Broken Line Collapse Landscape', refers to the title of one of her recent paintings that was exhibited at VOLTA Art Fair New York in May  2023.
The concept of the collapsed line, the loss of control, is also the essence of her works on paper where a straight line is cut in the cardboard (after acrylic paint has been applied) and only the pealing of the top layer reveals if the line has 'collapsed' or not. 

Even though the addition of 'Landscape' to the title refers to the horizontal nature of the lines on the canvas, it should not deter us from allowing ourselves to 'find' a matching actual landscape in our memory.
